Beginning
in 1994 to 2004 the Oakland Raiders organization participated in an
event called "Christmas On The Streets." This event gave
children in the Richmond, California area of Belding Woods's neighborhood
toys and performances for the Holidays. The objective of the event
was to give children who ordinarily would have a very dismal holiday
season, to have one of enjoyment, personal involvement, and a sense
of community. Many have been abused, neglected, or traumatized by
violence. There was at that time graffiti, drive-by shootings, blight;
all the problems that inner-cities face. To these kids just knowing
someone cared was so very important and meant hope! Many lives have
been saved and families brought together because of the Raiders involvement!
If it had not been for the Oakland Raiders organization and their
cheerleaders, the Raiderettes, Ms. Mary Barnes, who was the special
events coordinator, we would not be enjoying the peace, stopping
of violence, lowering of crime, and a sense of community that we
have now. Crime and violence in the Belding Woods area are at the
lowest in the state because of the involvement of the Oakland Raiders
Organization City of Richmond, Ca. and the Peace On The Streets
Organization, Inc., S.F. Ca.
We
hope the general public is made aware and knows Mr. Davis and his
organization of professionals took a chance on us! The "commitment
to excellence" extended not only to football but to a better
community. "Just Win Baby!" Is not just a statement of
football by Mr. Davis, but is forever in the hearts and minds of
the kids in the community of Belding Woods Neighborhood of Richmond,
California.
God bless! Mr. Al Davis of the Oakland Raiders may he Rest in Peace!
Thank you so very much!
